We recently did a rough count and found no fewer than 74 guest houses in Claremont, Kenilworth, Rondebosch, Wynberg, Bishopscourt and Newlands alone.
And with the advent of owner-managed portals like Airbnb, it is becoming increasingly popular to rent out unused spaces, resulting in an additional 300 individual beds on offer (to the more budget-conscious) in the Southern Suburbs.
Guests should be aware though that using one of these booking portals means that they are often paying more to cover the commissions charged and that booking direct is almost always cheaper.
Convenience, comfort and a touch of class
We at Au Pear guest house are fortunate to be central to so many attractions and our guests include holiday makers and travellers from all over South Africa and the far corners of the globe who have, we are proud to say, all given us rave reviews.
Since November 2015 we have enjoyed a 100% occupancy rate with only a slight slowing down now in autumn. But after the Winter months we’re sure to be fully booked again – we already have 50% confirmed bookings for Summer.
We also often welcome sports fans and players participating in events at Newlands rugby and cricket Stadiums or in the Two Oceans Marathon, as well as parents here to watch inter-schools water polo and hockey matches. Visiting professors and others associated with the University of Cape Town find our location very convenient, as do those coming for medical treatment at superb local hospitals and clinics.
Like the area? Move in permanently!
The spinoff is that more people are staying on this side of the mountain (as opposed to the Atlantic Sea Board and Waterfront). They naturally become enchanted with the area and delight in finding good value for money when they do a quick search for property to buy.
Over the last five years, we have converted many of our guests at Au Pear into buyers, landlords and Tenants.
We’d be happy to give you advice – based on our experience in both the hospitality industry and real estate – on smart investments in the area and turning your home into a money-making asset.
