Sports Haven
Newlands is renowned for its love of sports. It houses both the Newlands Rugby Stadium and the Newlands Cricket Ground, which is situated under old oak trees with Devil’s Peak peering in the distance. The rugby stadium has hosted 13 South African rugby test matches with 9 out of 13 wins for the South African Team. First used in 1890, it is the oldest rugby stadium in South Africa and the second-oldest in the world.

Kirstenbosch Gardens
The Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is considered the most beautiful garden in Africa and one of the greatest botanic gardens in the world. Situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, it was established in 1913 and was the first botanic garden in the world to be dedicated to a country’s indigenous flora. The reason for its creation was to promote, conserve and display the exquisite flora of Southern Africa –and over a decade later the gardens still upholds its core values. It displays a vast array of Cape Flora called fynbos and also houses indigenous wildlife. For the adventure seekers there are five trails, of varying levels of difficulty, that put you in the centre of the garden’s glorious flora and fauna.

Table Mountain
Living in Newlands guarantees daily views one of the wonders of the world: Table Mountain. The flat-topped mountain is a landmark that towers above the city of Cape Town and is even featured on the flag of Cape Town. Table Mountain is one of the main tourist attractions in South Africa and offers a cableway and hiking trails to appreciate its sheer beauty. The Newlands ravine gorge is one of the hiking routes to venture on, the route is non-technical and leads from the Southern Suburbs up to an area between Devils Peak and Table Mountain. Besides hiking, the Newlands ravine houses a sculpture garden, studios, a restaurant and the first modern San Bushman Gallery.

Liesbeek River
The river is named after a small river in the Netherlands and is situated in the oldest urbanised river valley in South Africa. The water flows from the eastern slopes of Table Mountain just above Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The area is ideal for leisurely strolls along the river and evening picnics. It is also home to a the Wild Fig restaurant.

Constantia Valley and Winelands
Just 10 minutes from Newlands sits the Constantia Winelands, nestled beneath the Table Mountain National Park. Its history dates back to 1685, making it the oldest wine-producing region in the Southern Hemisphere. The Constantia Valley contains award-winning restaurants and a stunning boutique hotel with spas and B&Bs. Activities here include zip-lining, mountain-biking, horse-riding and an array of businesses. The wine estate offers all-year-round wine tastings and picnics, live music and festivals.
