A Conservation Piece

Governors of the Cape. In 1938 Joyce Newton Thompson bought Newlands House (in 1959 she became Cape Town’s first woman mayor). Under the influence of Gwelo Goodman (friend, architect and well known South African artist) Gwelo House was turned into an elegant and gracious family home on over 2,600sqm of glorious park-like gardens now filled with mature trees and plantings. Retaining its period charm and timeless appeal, Gwelo House was entirely restored in the year 2000 with the utmost respect to the previous occupants.

A sumptuous separate guest cottage overlooking the pool also offers visitors a private and peaceful garden of infinite delights.

The main dwelling provides extensive accommodation including a high-ceilinged drawing room, a library room and an elegant dining room that spills out onto a covered patio for all year round entertaining.

Possibly the fastest sale in Pam’s 27-year history, she sold Gwelo House in 2008 within one hour of listing and showing the house to one buyer.

In this business, it is not always the size of the company that matters, but the calibre of the individual agent that you select to get the job done.
