Die Burger published a story I sent them about this painting by Pierneef (1886/1957) of a house called Luncarty (circa 1918) that after many years had found its way “home”, the owners having bought it at an auction. The article also mentioned that this Sir Herbert Baker property near Kirstenbosch was for sale. Sitting in a waiting room up the West Coast, a gentleman picked up the newspaper and phoned me about buying the painting. It was not for sale without the house. I am happy to say that 22 years later he is still the proud owner of both Luncarty and the Pierneef.
